Doctrinal Statement...What We Believe

THE BIBLE

The Holy Bible is the divinely inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God.

The Holy Bible reveals God and His will to man. The Holy Bible has God as its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error. The Holy Bible is the sole authority for Christian living.

Deuteronomy 4:1-2Psalms 12:6Psalms 19:7-10Psalms 119:105Psalms 119:160Hebrews 4:122 Timothy 3:162 Peter 1:20-21

Jesus Christ, The Only Son of God

Jesus Christ, our Lord, is God in the flesh. He is God and man in one person. He is the only Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, vicariously atoned for sin through His shed blood and death. He died on the cross in our place for our sins, was buried, resurrected from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father as our Advocate and will personally return in full power and glory to judge the living and the dead. There is spiritual unity of all true believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Hebrews 1:1-3Matthew 1:18-23John 1:1-18Acts 1:9-11Acts 2:22-241 Corinthians 15Revelation 5:9-14

      Man

Man is made in the image of God. Man is created to worship God, to glorify Him and to have dominion over the earth. Sin separates man from God, and man is eternally doomed unless he receives salvation in Jesus Christ’s shed blood.

      Genesis 1:26Psalms 8:3-6Acts 17:26-31Romans 3:10-18Romans 3:23

        Priesthood of the Believer

Every believer is a minister and has direct access to God through the high priest, Jesus Christ.

        Hebrews 4:14-16Hebrews 10:19-22Ephesians 3:7

        Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

Baptism by immersion follows Christ’s example, symbolizing death, burial and resurrection to new life in Christ. It serves as a public testimony of faith and act of obedience after accepting Christ as personal Savior and Lord. The Lord’s Supper is an act of obedience and a testimony of faith. It symbolically memorializes the death of Jesus Christ. Self examination and confession of sins should proceed participation in the Lord’s supper.

        Matthew 3:13-17Matthew 26:26-30Acts 16:30-33Romans 6:3-5Colossians 2:12

          The “SO THAT” Principle

Believing that whatever God has allowed in an individual’s life can become their platform from which to minister, we teach and disciple the “SO THAT” principle.

          2 Corinthians 1:3-4

              GOD THE FATHER

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We worship the one and only unchanging, sovereign God, the Creator and Ruler of all things in heaven and earth. God is manifest in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

              Genesis 1:1Genesis 1:261 Chronicles 29:11-12Deuteronomy 6:4Psalms 90:21 Peter 1:2

                Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity exalting Christ and convicting us of our sin and need for Jesus Christ. He fully lives in every believer from the moment of salvation He comforts, teaches and empowers us to live in righteousness. He equips every believer with spiritual gifts for service in the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit indwells all true believers and enables them to live a godly life.

                Matthew 1:18John 14:16-17John 16:7-14Acts 1:81 Corinthians 3:161 Peter 4:10

                 Salvation

Since all persons are separated from God by sin and are in need of forgiveness, God offers the free gift of salvation. Each person must individually receive (appropriate) this gift, repent of sin and place their faith in Jesus Christ and confess Him as Savior and Lord.

                Exodus 6:2-8Matthew 16:21-26John 3:15-16John 17:3Romans 5:1Romans 6:23Ephesians 2:8-9

                Eternal Security of the Believer

We believe our true salvation, provided by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone, is eternally secure. It is imperishable and no man or circumstance can snatch us out of the powerful hand of God because Jesus Christ has made an everlasting covenant with us.

                John 10:282 Timothy 1:121 Peter 1:4Hebrews 7:252 Samuel 23:5John 3:36John 5:24John 14:6Romans 8:38-39

                    The Church

Jesus Christ is the head of His body, the church. The body of Christ is composed of believers. The purpose of the church is to carry out His mission in the world.

                    Matthew 16:15-19Acts 2:41-42Acts 2:47Romans 12:4-81 Corinthians 12Revelation 2-3Ephesians 4:10-16

The Cross and the Exchanged Life

Sonflower Ministries teaches the healing and transforming power of the cross. The term “exchanged life” is directly related to the believer’s discovery of a new identity in Christ. Most Christians have been taught that Christ died for their sins, but few have been taught the truth of their death with Him. Consequently, few Christians find victory in their lives. Although they have been set free from the penalty of their sins, they have not yet experienced freedom from the domination of the flesh.
