Why a Sunflower?
A ministry for women of all ages, races, socio-economic backgrounds, and church denominational backgrounds.
A faith ministry — being built by faith and supported by faithful prayers.
A teaching and counseling ministry that offers women Bible teaching, counseling, prayer, fellowship and fun.
A non-profit, non-denominational ministry. Donations of financial support are tax-deductible. Sonflower Ministries is dependent upon financial gifts of support to enable its continued growth and outreach.
The sunflower is a gorgeous example of God’s handiwork…a flower that stands tall and follows the sun; a flower that can even be used to bring impurities out of the soil. This ministry chose the sunflower as our floral symbol and incorporated it into our logo which tells a story of our mission. The petals represent the many ways a woman can come into the fellowship of Sonflower Ministries…Retreats, Bible Studies, Conferences, Special Events, Mission Projects. These events will always honor our Lord Jesus Christ and the message of the cross. Once a woman has had a personal encounter at the cross, she is then mentored and sent out as a woman of faith to share the SO THAT message of Sonflower Ministries.
We host retreats, bible studies and other events for women in a Christ centered environment.
Sonflower retreats are held twice a year — the first weekends of May and November — in the beautiful North Georgia mountains of Cleveland, Georgia.
The Sonflower retreat is a time for fellowship, fabulous food, and a faith focus of Christ-centered Bible teaching, praise & worship, ministry, fun and laughter with new friends enjoying group discussions, lots of free time, and many wonderful surprises and special gifts to nurture and encourage a woman’s spiritual growth.
Sonflower Ministries (SFM) is now 23 years old. It was founded by Mary Lucy & Pastor J. Rea Holliday in 1994 and has held 48 women’s retreats, 6 teen girl's retreats, 7 conferences, and 6 summer camps. It continues its ongoing ministry outreach events of Bible studies, mission projects, workshops and mentoring programs. It offers individual and family counseling.
Through more than two decades of outreach, SFM has partnered with other organizations to minister restoration to women and children from such groups as: Mary Hall Freedom House, Right Side Up (M.A.R.R.), Cobb Pregnancy Services, Atlanta Day Shelter, Square Peg Ministries, Woodlands Camp and Retreat Center, House of Hope, Sandy Springs Mission, Jars of Clay, Every Woman Works, Wellspring Living, Grateful Hearts Ministries and Angels in Flight.
From spring 2012 to fall 2017 these 12 retreats have resulted in more than 350 decisions for Christ.
At these retreats many prayed for release of the pain of past hurts, and several prayed for healing from having a barren womb, or having lost a child to death or to the court system. When a woman accepts Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, it not only positively impacts her life, but the life of her children, grandchildren, place of employment or community in which she lives.
